Weekend of May 10
Faith milestones on Mother’s Day
Moms play an important role in our lives, from a hug and a kiss for a skinned knee, to plodding through math homework with their kids, to helping raise grandchildren, and everything in between. We know that the person you call “Mom” might be your mom, or she may be a stepmom, an aunt, a grandmother, a foster mom, or even a caring neighbor. This weekend, we honor all the mother figures in our church family. We thank you for all the ways you show up in a motherly role for the young people in your life who need you, Moms! We’re also celebrating family dedications during our worship service. It’s exciting to see the fruits of God’s work in the hearts of our church family as we dedicate their babies and young children to the church.
Check your route to Oltman
Spring road construction is well underway, and Oltman Middle School finds itself right in the thick of it. 65th Street will be closed from Geneva Ave to Goodview Ave beginning this week. You can get more details and sign up for updates here.
Global 6K for Clean Water: Invite your friends!
Did you know that over 1000 kids die each day across the globe due to contaminated water? One way you can help is to join our annual Team World Vision Global 6K for Water at Colby Lake Park in Woodbury on May 16. Register now to bike, run, or walk with your family and friends to provide clean water where it’s needed most. Between now and May 10, anyone you invite may use the discount code 6KINVITE to get $20 off each registration. All the details registration is here.
World Vision Global 6K: We’d love your help
As the Global 6K for Clean Water approaches on May 16, we need your help to make this event a success for both the communities across the world in need of clean water, and for all of the families who are participating in the event. We’re expecting lots of non-Five Oakers to walk, run, and stroll that day, some of whom have no idea how amazing the people of Five Oaks are. Let’s welcome all who show up that day! We’d love your help with set-up, tear-down, snack table, to name a few. Interested in helping out? (By the way, YES! You can volunteer to help AND walk or run the 6K!) Find more info here.
Students, let’s celebrate a great year together
We’re thankful for all the ways we’ve seen God at work in our students’ lives this ministry year, and this Wednesday, May 13, we’ll celebrate all of these things! We’ll have time to connect in small groups, worship, and pray for our eighth graders and seniors as they enter a new phase of life soon. Since this is our last Wednesday night of the ministry year, your students definitely won’t want to miss it! We’ll be meeting at our regular times: middle school 6-8 pm, high school 7-9 pm.
Help fill the gap this summer
As our Oaks Kids volunteers occasionally miss a Sunday for vacations or sports during summer months, we’d love to bless them by making sure they can be fully present with their families—without worrying about filling their serving spot. If you’ve never served in kids ministry, would you consider trying it just one Sunday this summer? It’s a simple way to make a real difference as we continue creating a safe, fun, and Christ-centered space for kids each week. Email Kayleigh Allred to get started.
Are you a word nerd?
Our church has a devotional called DailyLife, written and edited entirely by volunteers. We currently have openings on our writing and editing teams! If you love to write and/or edit and want to help shepherd our readership in their walk with Jesus, please email Peg Benson, pbenson@fiveoakschurch.org. We provide training and support on an ongoing basis as needed. This is a great way to serve from home — or from the cabin!
Come as you are — leave more connected
Ladies, you’re invited! Join us for our second Oaks Women’s get-together – an evening to meet new friends, build community, and grow together as a new church family. We will be getting together on Thursday, May 21, from 7-9 pm. Interested? Email Jennifer Fair at mejifair@gmail.com.
